NATIONAL FINALS Preparations are now underway in many countries, including Armenia, Belarus, Malta and Ukraine to select entries for Junior Eurovision 2008. In the Netherlands alone more than 1,000 songs have been entered in the competition to select a song to perform in Lemesos. The Dutch show will take place in October and in Russia and Romania the national finals will take place much earlier - on the 1st of June. In the same month Cyprus will select its song to represent the home country in Lemesos! THEME SONG Famous Cypriot singer Evridiki, together with Dimitris Korgialas, who represented Cyprus in the Eurovision Song Contest last year in Helsinki, are writing "Fun in the Sun", the theme song for Junior Eurovision 2008. They will perform this great up-tempo number live on the show and it is bound to become a big hit. CHOREOGRAPHY One of the choreographers of the Athens Olympics in 2004, Cypriot Fotis Nikolaou is preparing an extravaganza for the stage in Lemesos. He will be holding auditions in the middle of June to choose 100 dancers to perform in the show. COSTUME DESIGNER Lakis Genethlis, who is the Production Designer of many successful Cypriot series, is liaising closely with Fotis Nikolaou to design the costumes for the show to ensure this is a spectacular event for all the world to see. MUSIC Another well-known Cypriot composer Kostas Cacogiannis, who has worked all over the world, is busy in his Troodos studios, writing the music for the show. Kostas wrote the theme tune and incidental music for the bid which helped CyBC secure this major commission for the European Broadcasting Union. THE POSTCARDS Producers Korinna Avramidou and Despo Karpi are shooting material throughout Cyprus in High Definition for the postcards which will introduce each country. The postcards will combine Cypriot mythology, humour and show lots of fun things to do on the island of Aphrodite! VOTING A new system of voting is under consideration by the EBU. 50% jury & 50% televoting may be introduced in this year's show, combined with a celebrity panel in the arena which will award points like a separate country. The final decision on voting will be taken at the EBU Steering Group meeting in October in Lemesos. THE LATEST NEWS Lots of meetings are taking place all the time both here and abroad to ensure Cyprus' biggest-ever TV event goes without a hitch! In June Cyprus hosts the next EBU Steering Group and the first Heads of Delegation meeting in Lemesos with representatives from all the participating countries. At this 4-day event, last year's show will be reviewed, CyBC will outline plans for 2008 and the selection will be made for the host broadcaster of Junior Eurovision 2009. At the same time, CyBC is busy preparing the Cyprus national final which will be live from Studio 3 in Lefkosia at 21:15 on Saturday, 28th June. The winner of this show will represent Cyprus on home-ground on the 22nd of November 2008!
