Jon and the Islanders rock Larnaka Airport

To celebrate the start of the countdown to the Eurovision Song Contest in Oslo, Larnaka International Airport will be treating travellers to a medley of Eurovision hits performed live on a stage set up in the check-in area.

And there was no one better to launch this event than our very own Jon Lilygreen and the Islanders. A large crowd gathered to watch the group sing the Cyprus entry ‘Life Looks Better in Spring’ which was performed completely live.

After performing ‘Life Looks Better in Spring’ Jon announced to the crowd that he was to sing a second song called ‘See it for Yourself’ which he wrote himself about his experience so far of the Eurovision process.

Adamos Aspris, the Public Relations and Communications Manager of Hermes Airports told CyBC that the event is just part of the support the airport will be showing to this year’s Eurovision entry. The song is already being played in passenger and on video screens throughout the airport. It is hoped that some of the thousands of   passengers passing through the airport in the run up to the Eurovision will hear the song and vote for Cyprus!

The airport is also to be the location of where Cyprus ’ delivers its voting results in the Grand Final on May 29th. The outcome of the combined votes from the public and the jury will be presented by last year’s representative, Christina Metaxa.

The Cyprus Delegation will leave for Norway on Tuesday morning. Jon Lilygreen and the Islanders have their first rehearsal at the Telenor Arena on Wednesday at 13:50 Oslo time. You can see pictures from the first rehearsal right here.
